Opinions, crying babies and childish "friends"

So there is this Meet and Seat service that KLM has come up with. It allows one person to choose who they want to sit next to based on social media profiles. Link: http://www.springwise.com/transportation/airline-lets-passengers-choose-seat-partners-based-social-media-profiles/

I posted it on my FB wall and said it would be great if I am able to choose a seat far away from crying babies or annoying screaming kids.

A few minutes later, I got an angry reply from a friend saying that I should be nice and her baby can't help it if he screams due to the pressure etc and they wouldn't have let him travel unless necessary.. etc etc etc...

Now, all I was saying was I want to be able to CHOOSE a seat far away from them. I didn't say ban them! So i don't understand why she got so mad. Everyone is entitled to have their opinion.

The baby can cry and scream in the plane but I just want to be far away from it all. If I am able to CHOOSE. I know the babies can't help it and can't tell you what's annoying them so they cry and scream. All I was saying is.. i want to be able to CHOOSE! I paid for my air ticket too so I have a right to have an enjoyable flight. Like how you have a right to bring your screaming baby onto the plane. I just want to be able to CHOOSE to sit far away from you! I think even if I explain till my face turns blue, this "friend" would still not understand what I'm trying to say.

So anyway, 2 min after said friend posted on my wall, she went on to post on her wall saying, "Liking dogs is ok but publicly listing them as your children on facebook? That's taking it a bit too far".

Ok lah, I did list my dogs as my children on my fb. Cannot is it? I love them! They are part of my family. Of course, there are boundaries too. I do not actually treat them like children!

Anyway, I think the world has gone mad. If you say you can't stand crying babies or screaming annoying kids, you are seen as evil! I love kids.. when they are well behaved. I get annoyed with my nephews too when they misbehave! Does that make me evil? I just don't like screaming kids...

Anyway, needless to say that person is no longer a friend. Not because she left that angry comment but just because I said something that she doesn't like to hear and she went on to write about me and my dogs on fb.

Life is too short to have childish friends....

Mee Soto!

One of my favourite food is Mee Soto.. with lots of Sambal Kicap.

A few years ago, I was craving for it for two weeks and was so desperate, i resorted to making it myself. I am once again craving for it and since I have a few days off the next few weeks, I might make it for my MIL when she is here. I hope she likes it. So far she likes the chicken rice we've cooked for her and has always requested that we cook that for her when she is here.

Anyway, I got the Mee Soto recipe from this girl called M3rNi3. I am now sure how to pronounce that? LOL. Anyway, her mum's Mee Soto is very sedap!

I am reposting her recipe here because I am worried she might delete her blog in future and I might not be able to have my Mee Soto.. :( hehe

Ingredients

1 whole chicken cut into 12 pieces, cleaned
2 heaped tbsp coriander seeds
1 level tsp cumin seeds
5 - 7 big onions, roughly chopped
3 pips garlic, roughly chopped
3 cm fresh turmeric
3 candlenut
2 red chillies, roughly chopped
1 lemongrass
2 lime leaves
2 salam leaves
water
1/4 cup coconut milk
2 tbsp sweet soya sauce
salt and sugar to taste
oil

Method

In a blender, grind coriander seeds, onion, garlic, turmeric, cumin, candlenut and chillies with a lil bit of water.
Heat some oil in a pot and fry the ground ingredients till fragrant and crisp.
Press the end of lemongrass with a pestle and put in the lime and salam leaves and put them in the pot.
Add some salt and sugar then add enough water and leave it to boil on high flame.
Once it has started to boil, lower the flame and put in the chicken pieces and leave it to coook.
Add in the coconut milk and sweet soya sauce and leave it boil again.
Leave it for a moment and turn off heat.

Serve chicken soup hot with noodle or vermicelli or rice cakes and blanched beansprouts.
Top it off with condiments such as fried crispy shallots, chopped cilantro and spring onions and "sambal kicap" - made of ground birds eye chillies, garlic and sweet soya sauce.

I also found a very good recipe for the Sambal Kicap but I forgot where I got it from..

To make sambal kicap:
4-5 thai chili (more if you like it spicier)
Sweet soy sauce
Salt
Lime juice

Pound thai chili using mortar and pestle. If you are making a lot, you can use the blender. Add in the rest of the ingredients

Here is a pic of the Mee Soto I made the last time!

Dear HSBC

Dear HSBC,

Many thanks for your letter to inform me that the Shipley branch is now open on Saturdays.
I have no idea why you are telling me this as this branch is 6 miles away! If you look at my address or postcode, it will tell you that I live in Leeds.

Also, the opening time is not convenient for me as it opens at 10am. I believe your competitor, Natwest opens at 8 or maybe 9 am on a Saturday morning but definitely earlier than your branches.

You said in your letter that I could talk to the advisors on how to get the most of my money.. The unfortunate thing is, on a Saturday, i can't get any money (greater than £500 - withdrawal limit) out of my account because the counters are not open.

I do not understand why you have to have all your counters closed but have three member of staff in the lobby telling me I can't get MY money out. They even had the audacity to suggest that I can get a bank draft which will cost me £20.

So anyway, HSBC, I've decided to bank with someone else. Not letting me have access to MY money was the last straw.

Bye!

Your Sincerely,
Your ex-customer, Fat Fingers.

Things that annoy me #838 - $urprises

Got up this morning to an email from the eldest sister asking if i would like to share a present for our dear mother.

Of course! I'd love to give her a present! She's my mother and I love her!

Turns out.. it is a $2600 present for some facial spa thing. $2600!! $2600/3 = $866!!

Now I don't mind spending $866 on my mother...but to tell me that I have pay it by Christmas is not possible. We all have financial commitments. Well, maybe not for my sister..but I do!
$866 is 65% of my mortgage!

I felt obliged to say yes but this time I have to say No as I have other responsibilities now - mortgage, bills. etc.. Plus.. i have also spent about £650 on air tickets back to Singapore to see my mother this Christmas.. That has got to be the best Christmas present for her right? RIGHT?!?!

I did suggest buying it for her next Christmas which will give me some time to save for it.. but the sister wasn't keen...

Also am very annoyed with the sister because I just found out that she is going to do this facial spa thing as her part time job..and if my mum gets it and uses it everyday, she can lure her other friends to get it too!!!!

So anyway.. i hate $urprises.. that has to do with $$$..
Give me more advance notice please!!

Things that annoy me #384

Irresponsible dog owners.
We have a neighbour who owns a collie. Collies are highly intelligent dogs. They need mental stimulation and like any other dogs, they need to be walked! At least 2 or 3 times a day!

Bringing him out to the common (field) every day and letting him roam around to poo/pee while you stand there playing with your phone is not walking your dog!

This is dog abuse to me!
No wonder this dog is so aggressive! He has so much energy in him and so when dogs go up to him, he'll just have a go at them!
That's what he did to my poor little puppy! (Who I shall call Oafalina as she is an oaf! hehe).

The owner had no control over the dog! She knew her dog is aggressive towards other dogs but what did she do? Well, let's start with what she did not do.

She didn't hold on to her dog. Instead, she tried to play ball with him. Oafalina went up to greet them and sniffed the ball and the Collie just went for her!
Oafalina was squealing! What did the owner do? She did nothing! No control over her dog whatsoever!

What did I do? I did a Cesar Millan hehe. I went HEY! made the tsst sound that Cesar does in every eps of The Dog Whisperer (hehe) and pulled Oafalina away.

That stupid owner even had the cheek to say... "Are you alright, sweetheart?"

Grrr.

Luckily Oafalina was alright. If she was injured, I really don't know what to say to the RSPCA officer who was going to check on us the next day!

Anyway, I am very wary of this dog now. We heard stories about him attacking people and other dogs from other people.
I don't really blame the dog for his behaviour. It's the owners.

Anyway, the point is.. if you want to have a dog, you must walk them at least twice a day!
Be responsible! And please pick up your dog's poo too!

Strike!

“The council says we have to take a pay cut so lower paid workers, especially women workers, can get an increase. Women workers have been underpaid for years, and they should have their pay increased, but not at the expense of their fellow workers.”

So Leeds City Council decided that everyone should have equal pay and started the equal pay legislation.
So now all workers doing equivalent jobs should have equal pay?? But how can an office clerk and a bin man have equal pay?

I don't think it is right to cut bin men's salaries by as much as £6,000 a year!
No wonder they go on strike lah!

It's almost 3 weeks already and now we have 5 bin bags sitting at the back yard waiting for the bin men... I hope there will be no rats...

I am finding it really hard... LOL!
I nag at him all the time.... poor him...
And poor me.. i didn't dare open my mouth much today cos I'm worried I might just start nagging at him!! It was really difficult and I have to bite my tongue everytime I want to nag at him! HAHAHA

I have so many things I want to tell him but I better leave it till later.... hehehe
I now have exactly 53min to go before I win the bet!!!
我忍!!

Umbrella

It's been raining here a lot lately and so I had no choice but to use the brolly.

I don't like to use umbrellas because the wind here is so strong and it's hard trying not to let the umbrella fly away.

I don't like those small folding umbrellas too because i have no patience to fold them nicely after i've used them.

Grandma use to do that for me. She would patiently sit there and fold the brolly nicely for me, put it in the cover and put it back into my bag.

I miss Grandma.. I miss all the little things she used to do for me.

Flapping Ears...

So today, we got back from camping from the Yorkshire Dales...and what do I get?
A dried flatten crow ON the pavement, just in front of our house and I almost stepped on it! Yes, it's that same crow that was on the side of the road a few weeks ago..

I also saw many road kills along the roads in the dales....all of them rabbits and one still had its ears sticking out... and the ears flapped when cars drove passed it...
